Calen's Charlie Brown afghan that was crocheted by a volunteer, and given to him at the clinic. Posted by Hello

One day, early in Calen's chemotherapy treatments, he was really cold sitting in the infusion room. I asked the nurse for a blanket, and she gave Calen an afghan. She said there were people who made them and donated them to the clinic for the kids. Calen really appreciated this afghan as the clinic was always chilly. I call it his Charlie Brown afghan, because of the colors.

A couple months after Calen finished his treatments in December 2003, I started thinking of a way to give back. My time is limited, we live 2 hours away from the hospital and clinic, and I'm on a tight budget. Then I thought about Calen's Charlie Brown afghan. I thought I could do that! I learned how to crochet when I was young, I can crochet when I get the chance, and easily set it aside when responsibilities call, and I can buy yarn on clearance to make it fit my budget. Sounded like a perfect fit! I asked at the clinic if they needed more donations, their answer was yes!

So in March, 2004 I started crocheting afghans for the kids at University of Kentucky, Kentucky Clinic, Hematology Oncology Clinic.
